Salkantay comes from the Quechua language, the meaning of which is “Wild Mountain”. Due to its majesty and elevation. It is located in the Vilcanota Mountain Range of the Andes. About 6, 271 meters above sea level. It is the second largest mountain in Cusco after the Nevado de Ausangate.
For 5 days you will appreciate the Andean landscape in all its splendor. The trek from Salkantay to Machu Picchu is an adventure full of beautiful landscapes. You will feel the change of weather from cold to warm. You will delight with glaciers, crystal lakes, the Amazon jungle with all its exuberant vegetation and part of the most famous trail, the Inca Trail.
Among the natural landscapes you will visit Lake Humantay and Lake Salkantay. In addition to meeting virgin communities that have not had contact with today.

Our adventure starts very early in the morning. We will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco in our private transport. We will take you through the Andean landscapes of the province of Anta to Mollepata. A beautiful traditional village where we will stop for breakfast.
We will continue our journey to Soraypampa. This is the starting point of the walk. Here you will meet the cooks and muleteers who will accompany us on our 5-day adventure.
After arranging our belongings and storing the necessary things we will start the hike. We will start with a two-hour hike to the Humantay Lagoon. This beautiful lagoon has crystal clear waters and a very pure environment.
After enjoying such a beautiful landscape we will return to Soraypampa. We will continue with an ascent to Salkantay Pampa. Here our chefs will delight us with a delicious Andean lunch. And a breathtaking view of a glacier.
We will continue with a descent to Soyrucocha. Located on the glacial moraine with a small lake. At the base of the snowy Salkantay. This will be the place where we will spend the night in comfortable tents.
Upon arrival you will get stunning views of the snowy Salkantay. After a delicious dinner you will be able to rest next to this imposing snowy mountain.
Early in the morning we will wake you up with a delicious breakfast. We will continue the hike to the highest point, the Salkantay Pass. On the way you will be able to appreciate Andean livestock animals such as vizcachas and chinchillas.
Upon reaching the Salkantay Pass you will get imoresionanste views of the mountains with their imposing snow-capped peaks. You will be able to see the Humantay Mountain.
After appreciating these views we will continue the tour. We will descend for 3 hours to Huayracmachay. Here we will stop to enjoy a delicious lunch.
We will continue walking until we reach a valley. This place will make you feel the temperature change. As you descend you will be able to see more colorful landscapes along with all its natural environment, animals and native flowers such as orchids abound in this place.
Finally we will arrive at Colpapampa. This will be the place where we will camp in comfortable tents. After a delicious dinner prepared by our chefs.
Early in the morning you will wake up with a delicious breakfast. We will continue the walk through the Santa Teresa Valley. We will descend to the edge of the jungle. This place offers breathtaking views of landscapes along the Alto Salkantay River.
We will continue descending until we reach the Beach of Sahuayaco. This place is surrounded by abundant vegetation such as fruit trees, avocados, bananas and coffee crops. Here we will stop for lunch.
After the delicious lunch we will continue the adventure. We will walk until we reach Lucmabamba. Here you will have an unforgettable afternoon. You will be able to appreciate crops of a great variety of coffee. Perform the procedure for producing coffee for consumption. Finally you will be able to take your own coffee production.
After this experience we will go to the camp where we will spend the night. It is located a few meters from this place. After a delicious dinner you will rest in our comfortable tents.
Early in the morning we will wake you up with a delicious breakfast. We will continue our adventure ascending through the jungle until we reach the archaeological site of Llactapata. Here you can see the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Together with our guide you will tour the place. Then we will continue descending to the Hydroelectric station of Machu Picchu. Here we will stop for lunch.
Finally you will take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival you will be taken to your respective accommodation. After settling in you can explore this rustic village or relax in its thermal baths.
Early in the morning the hotel staff will give you a box of snacks. Then we will transfer you to the bus station. Here you will board the bus that will take you to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
When you arrive at the entrance of the citadel you will verify your documents. After passing the control we will start our tour. Together with our guide we will tour the entire citadel. You will know more about this place and the function it fulfilled within the Inca Empire.
After touring the citadel you will have free time to explore the citadel on your own. We recommend walking to the Inti Punku which offers a breathtaking view of the entire citadel. If you have booked a hike to Machu Picchu or the Huayna Picchu Mountain, our guide will direct you to the entrance.
After enjoying this wonder we will return to Aguas Calientes. Board the bus back to the village. Upon arrival you will have free time so you can have lunch or learn more about this rustic village.
Later you will board the train that will take you back to Ollantaytambo. Here our private transport will be waiting for you to take you back to Cusco.
