Tour Details

Q’eswachaka the last Inca bridge, was built along with other suspension bridges by the Inca Empire. These bridges were built in places of rugged geography presented by the Andes mountain range. The function was to connect the different communities that were separated by the river. It is made of vegetable fibers and braided.

It is located in the province of Canas about three and a half hours from the city of Cusco at an altitude of 3,700 meters above the Apurimac River. This bridge is 29 meters long and 1.20 meters wide.

Q’eswachaka is the last Inca bridge preserved to date, and is renewed every year for conservation during the second week of June by the communities of Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, Huinchiri and Ccollana Quehue.

It is a remarkable four-day event that has been recognized by some of the prominent channels like NOVA and BBC. In 2009, the Peruvian government recognized the Q’eswachaka bridge as a cultural heritage.
