The Salt Mines of Maras

It is one of the most visited natural places by tourists. It offers an impressive view of the use of natural resources and the technology they used to take advantage.

These wells were used for the extraction and production of salt. An evaporation process was used, where the solidification of these salty waters is expected. After that, the salt is extracted and processed by more than 800 families from the local communities of Maras for consumption.

Moray

Located a few kilometers from the town of Maras. The Archaeological complex of Moray awaits us. Famous for its circular agricultural terraces.

This complex was used by the Incas as an agricultural research center. It has 20 terraces that as they descend are smaller in size. In addition, you can appreciate 20 different microclimates, which varies by 15 degrees between the highest and the lowest terrace.

Thanks to this agricultural laboratory, the Incas managed to make use of most of the land along the Sacred Valley and give it the necessary conditions for successful production.
