The Humantay Lagoon is located at an altitude of 4,200 meters. Very popular for its crystal clear waters. This place hides myths and legends of ancient civilizations. In addition to being surrounded by imposing snowy mountains. This lake gets its name from the snowy Humantay, as it feeds on the snow that melts on the hill and descends into the pure waters of the lake.
This place is considered sacred since the Inca civilization until today. The villages surrounding the lagoon still preserve their traditions. Even today, Andean priests called shamans go up to the lagoon to offer Apacheta. It is a process of stacking stones one on top of the other to thank Mother Earth (Pachamama) for accompanying them on their journey.
The hike to Lake Humantay is 1 hour and a half from Soraypampa. If you do not want to walk, you can rent a horse for a private cost.
To make this trip we strongly recommend spending a few days in Cusco or acclimatize to avoid altitude sickness.
